The Divine Comedy have been announced as this year's recipients of the Oh Yeah Legend Award, recognising the exceptional contribution of a homegrown talent to the music of Northern Ireland.
Fronted by Enniskillen's Neil Hannon, the band will be presented the accolade as part of the 2015 NI Music Prize night, which will see them perform a live selection from their impressive back catalogue at the Mandela Hall on November 14.
Previous years have seen the likes of Therapy?, The Undertones and Gary Moore (posthumously) honoured with the award.
'I am amazed and humbled to be receiving this honour,' says Hannon. 'There is nothing more gratifying than recognition from your homeland, and I’m very much looking forward to playing some songs and seeing some familiar faces at the Mandela Hall.'
The Divine Comedy have been releasing music since 1990. In addition to this huge body of work Hannon continues to perform internationally and composes for a variety of art forms including film, theatre, television and opera.
Set to be presented the same evening, the NI Music Prize celebrates the very best albums released by Northern Ireland artists over the past year. Decided by an academy of local media and industry professionals, several of the shortlisted acts will join The Divine Comedy in playing live on the night.
